A Society of Bullies

Bullying has become a hot issue recently basically because the selfish society we live in has bread nasty kids.Sorry but a concentration on over competitiveness has made us a bunch of bullying backstabbing heathens to a degree.  We all know about Amanda Todd who killed herself after months of torment at the hands of bullies and then the were the 8 girls charged with bullying in Ontario. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/10/19/london-bullying-arrests-girls-cyber.html. People are baffled by this but sorry folks I’m not. If you teach your children that it is Okay to fight then they will and not always for the right reasons.

That said I was appalled to read one person that commented on the article basically saying that the problem is that parents aren’t allowed to punish their kids and that is why kids are so mean. Hmm let’s see if you hit your kids then they are less likely to hit others. Sorry but the logic in that escapes me. There is a Bible verse we really need to teach our children and some of our parents.

Mathew 5:38-39

38 ¶ Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Teach this to your kids and then they won’t likely be bullies. Teach this to your children and when they are bullied they won’t feel it is their fault for not being strong enough. It takes more strength to endure than to fight.

  1. Let’s not forget that there are a number of teachers that are bullies too. Hence the reason they don’t see the bullies. In public school there was this one math teacher ( I am so tempted to mention his name but I won’t.) who used to sing a nasty little song every time he did not believe what you said. If he thought your reason for being late or not having your homework was an excuse the nasty little pig used to sing “tell us another-one just like the other-one tell us another one dooooo.” The problem is he used to target children that he did not like mostly because he “hated sloppiness” and thus all the poor kids in class were the targets. Torn jeans and stained clothes weren’t because you were too poor to buy new ones they were just because you were sloppy.

  2. This is not a current event; children and teenagers were not any nicer when I was a kid. I was bullied, horribly, right up until about grade 6 or 7. And then again when we first moved to Barrie. The only difference today, as far as I can tell, is that because of social media combined with absentee parents (for whatever reason), there is less of an escape from it. It follows you home. Teachers today, if anything, are more apt to step in. And gay kids? They have it way better than when I was growing up.

    • I’m not saying it is entirely new just the incidence of it seems to be statistically higher but that said it could be it is reported more often. Absentee parenting I put down to the selfish generation not taking enough time for their kids. Also it seems that (I know this isn’t true with your family) that school becomes the totality of a child’s life and home is just were you come to eat and sleep. If an adult was to put work above his family and his own personal advancement above all others then he would have a miserable home life but to some degree this is what we are teaching our kids.
