Mary P. Posted a really good message on her Blog about the “Helpful Public” As an older woman tried to tell Mary how to seat children on a bus. If anyone has read Mary’s Blog they know how competent she is and the help was unnecessary. The always helpful general public, are as Mary was pointing out not so helpful. Some might think the woman was being helpful, but demonstrating how you are better, wiser, or more cautious than the next person only proves to the world your not as smart as you think you are.

The bus seems to be the place where people like to teach others how to behave. I was on a bus the other day when an older man got on the bus and could not find a seat. A less than polite teenager had his backpack on the seat and the old fellow asked him to move it. The teen ignored the man and kept talking to his buddy. The old guy just stood there for a block, and when the doors opened at the next stop, the old man grabbed the kids bag and fired it off the bus and sat down. This could have spelled disaster, but the driver who obviously was a very intelligent man, reacted quickly and when the now hollering teen jumped off to grab his bag, closed the doors and drove away. Half the bus was laughing but the driver turned and sternly said to the man “I wouldn’t do that again, or it won’t be just the kid that’s walkin.”

Personally while I might see why the old lady thought it her place to lecture Mary (but not agree with it) and understand why the old guy would want to teach the punk kid a lesson both these two incidents taught me one thing.

Age does not make you smart just CRANKY. (-:

I LOVE the old fellow and the teen on the bus. I don’t think he was being cranky, I think he was being smart. The bus driver knew it, too, or he’d have kicked the old fellow off, too. I think the bus driver totally approved of what the older fellow did, he just couldn’t come right out and say that. My kids have put me in that position many times! Heh. But the fact that the driver just took off on the kid? Speaks volumes.

It wasn’t so much what the old guy did as the way it was done. That said, I have often felt like doing exactly what he did.

It is a cranky world that we live in.
